Project Scope:
In autumn 2010 a new creative Media facility was under development at the Sutton Coldfield Campus.
The college identified the need to provide an innovative flexible student seating solution to allow students to gain maximum benefit from the new learning environment being created.
Having searched the market place and failing to find a suitable solution, the college turned to the expertise of Mission Workplace, the specialist design and furniture division of Mission Interiors.
Design ......
Mission Workplace have successfully completed a number of educational projects with the college and Mission worked closely with the college facilities team to develop a bespoke solution which met the key criteria required.
An essential element was that the design of the student furniture complimented the “wow” factor of the creative media suite.
Flexibility ......
Flexibility was paramount to allow staff to easily move the seating units around the floor. Recessed handles were designed to help staff accomplish this.
The seating was designed to create a “tiered” solution to enable students at the rear to see the lecturer clearly and the notes being presented.
A very high quality, durable vinyl fabric on the seats allows for easy cleaning and maintenance.Side panels are laminated to allow any marks/scuffs to be cleaned.
Colours ......
The colours selected were picked to aesthetically reflect the design for the media suite, including the manifestation on glazing, walls, floors etc.
Overall the result is a visually stunning student environment, which helps stimulate the learning experience, and staff and students have commented very favourably on the overall look.
